This is three piece needle set. Enables a specimen to be taken from the pleura with reduced risk of damage to the lung. Behind the trocar point is a deep notch which can be closed with a rotary movement of the inner tube, thereby cutting and holding any engaged material. Rotating completely home will lock this in place, ensuring no loss of sample. The obturator is supplied to enable efficient removal of the specimen.

ackground: Abram needle used for pleural biopsy since 1955, which used by both hands during the procedure. A new Esmat pleural biopsy needle has been invented 2013 that can be used with one hand with no assistance to take care of the wound during the procedure.
Objectives: evaluate the diagnostic yield of new esmat pleural biopsy needle in diagnosis of exudative pleural effusion.
Methods: prospective study of blind pleural biopsy for 20 patients with exudative pleural effusions not diagnosed by full analysis of the fluid using new Esmat pleural biopsy needl.
Design: 20 patient with undiagnosed pleural effusion after full analysis of the pleural fluid, they underwent parietal pleural biopsy using the new Esmat pleural biopsy needle with follow up for 2 months after the procedure.
